Sachin Tendulker- The Unlucky Genius

There is a popular saying that 'Luck favours the brave'. But this might not hold true in the case of Sachin Ramesh Tendulker. The lady luck never seems to smile on Sachin. If the third test match between India and Australia which is underway (as I write this piece of blog) is anything to go by then it is true. A well set Sachin who is on the top of the Aussie (cheaters) bowling is done in at 71 odd runs by the erroneous decision of the umpire. He has just missed a well deserved century but he has missed a century by getting out in the 90's almost 16 times.

And probably 40% of his dismissals were due to wrong decisions, but the perfect gentleman that he is, never reacted angrily. All he does is walks back to the pavilion nodding his head.

A man who has records which probably would stand the test of time like the most number of runs and centuries in ODI cricket. The number of 100's in test cricket. And he is all set to break the record of most number of runs in test cricket. Such a genius can afford to have two odd records to his name as well. Record for being dismissed in the 90's most number of times and being dismissed most times due to erroneous umpiring decisions.

Well, I wish him all the best to carry on playing with the same fervour and invincibility with which he is known to play.

Shah Rukh Khan-The One Man Industry

Shah Rukh Khan-the name is in sync with the heart beats of more than a million people around the world. People tell that SRK (as he is fondly called) is the numero uno of the India Film Industry, but I strongly beg to differ. Well in my opinion SRK is the industry himself. I don't think there has ever been an actor in the film industry who has been so much loved and so much hated at the same times. there are people who swear allegiance to SRK and at the same time there are numerous others who are just waiting to rip him apart. So one thing becomes clear that you can either hate him or love him, but you just cant ignore him.

2007 has been an exceptional year for this ever proactive actor. Starting off with Chak De India -a film that was completely written off before it was released that even the producers started having doubts about this movie and they went slow on promotion. But once the film released there was a mass hysteria (as always) all over the world. The film had finally managed to hit the bull's eye and Chak De had become the sports anthem of Indian sports. And SRK gave one of his best performances in this beautiful film and slowly but steadily the film reached the blockbuster status garnering around 65 crores from India and another 20 crores from the overseas territory.

Then in November came the storm in waiting OSO. A film that had been engrossed in an ugly spitfire with another film that was to release the same day- Saawariya. And when both the films released, OSO practically ran a one horse race. This film redefined the concept of marketing. SRK being the producer of this film marketed the film so well that even in places like Chennai, where Hindi is spoken rarely, the film took a bumper opening. As the things stand today, OSO has collected around 86 crores in India and 45 crores in the overseas and it is still strong in both the territories.

F@#$% OFF Steve Bucknor !!!!!

There is a famous joke that a match was being held between the angel's team and the devil's team,

'I have all the best players of the world so i will win', the angel said to the devil.

'So what?' remarked the devil, 'I have all the umpires.'

Going by this joke one can be sure that Steve Bucknor is surely in the devil's team of umpires. If i ever get my hands onto the person who coined the proverb 'Old is Gold', I would surely bash him up to pieces. Coz it does not hold good in the case of the lousy, partial Steve Bucknor who was hell bent on giving charity to the Australian team by repeatedly giving decisions in their favour, much to the chagrin of the much superior Indian team in the second test match being played between India and Australia.

There should be a provision in which even the umpires should be punished for wrong decisions. If that becomes the case then surely Steve Bucknor would end up paying a fortune in fines. He is on the wrong side of his 50's and is well behind his prime. He revels in giving wrong decisions especially against the Indians. The ICC could do a huge favour to the game of cricket by fixing an retirement age for the umpires and allowing the players to directly appeal to the 3rd umpire if they are not satisfied by the field umpires. But the irony is that even the 3rd umpire goofed up in giving a simple stumping in favour of the Indians. I dont know whether the Australians have decided that the only way they could defeat the Indians is by cheating.

Had there been a good umpire like Simon Taufel or Asad Rauf, Australia would not have even scored 200 runs. They should be thankful to Steve Bucknor for having allowed them to score 400 odd runs. I wonder whether Steve Bucknor is on the payrolls of Cricket Australia.

Its high time that the ICC revamped its elite panel of umpires and dropped the partial (read Steve Bucknor) umpires just like they did to Darryl Hair (An Australian Umpire).
